The Apache-2.0 repository is still public and was still being pushed to on 2 August 2026. No announcement date is published, so the date here is when it was first observed.
GEMINI CLISUNSET SINCE 18 JUNE 2026Gemini CLI has had an access tier withdrawn; check what is still available before choosing it. Free consumer access ended 18 June 2026; users were directed to Google Antigravity. The tool still exists for API-key and paid use, so this is a withdrawn access tier rather than a shutdown, a distinction almost every ranked page gets wrong.

Before that decides anything: Continue was acquired by Cursor and is no longer independent. (since 2 August 2026) Gemini CLI has had an access tier withdrawn; check what is still available before choosing it. Both are open source, so neither can withdraw the thing you have already installed.
